Hoist speeds are 70-175m/min, trolley speed is 245m/min and crane travel speed is 45 m/min. Crane drives are Liebherr A.C.

These cranes are state of the art and include a straddle carrier positioning system, a laser scanning boom anti-collision system, and a gantry ultrasonic anti-collision system. The crane is fitted with numerous cameras covering the span and backreach area, cargo area and the boom operation. Feeds are displayed on monitors in the driver’s cabin, the machinery house, the operator’s cabin and the landside gantry station.

The addition of these two cranes to the Maher Container Terminal brings the number of Liebherr STS cranes supplied to New York/New Jersey ports to eight since 2001.

Maher Container Terminal at Port Elizabeth is North America’s largest container Terminal and is based on 445 Acres with a capacity for 2,000,000 lifts a year. The addition of the Liebherr Megamax STS cranes will substantially increase the capacity of the terminal.
