Reid Lifting sets new benchmark with Porta Base launch

Reid Lifting is launching Porta Base, a brand new lightweight, portable solution for safely lifting people and goods in confined spaces, and for façade and roof top maintenance.

Previewed at last year’s LiftEx event in Milton Keynes where it generated a huge amount of interest, it sets what Reid are calling ‘a new benchmark’ in terms of quality, capacity and ease of use.

Available as both an H-base and a counterbalance system, the new Porta Base has been designed in-house by Reid’s specialist engineering team in Chepstow to work with the company’s popular T-davit and Porta Davit Quantum lifting units. A new double winch T-davit is also now available alongside.

Reid’s Porta Base is a premium quality, heavy duty solution which delivers market leading performance across both goods and personnel lifting, as well as offering an anchor point for full fall arrest. Goods lifting capacity is 600kg, personnel lifting is 300kg, and reach is 800mm for the H-base and 1200mm for the counterbalance.

Managing director Simon Luke, commented, “We have deliberately designed the new Porta Base to give our customers maximum usability and flexibility. It does more than other systems on the market, yet it is still lightweight and transportable enough to make it a practical and cost-effective option for a wide range of applications.”

In terms of usability, the portable Porta Base can be assembled quickly and simply in just a few minutes. The H-base version has just three fully detachable components, while the counterbalance version has just five, and both can be assembled without the need for any fixed socket installation, and without any specialist tools.

Reid has produced assembly videos to show just how easy they are to put together and these are available alongside comprehensive product information on the company’s website at www.reidlifting.com

Reid expects the Porta Base to be chosen by end users who need a solution for difficult to access locations and confined spaces where they want to avoid the cost of a permanent, fall arrest installation. And, because of the flexibility of the compatible Reid davits offering roof access and goods lifting, the company says one of the other key markets will be users involved in roof top repairs and even window cleaning and glazing repair and replacement.

Renowned for its product innovation and pioneering designs in aluminium, Reid has once again delivered a highly sturdy system which makes the most of the inherent strength of the lightweight material. All of the elements are anodised and powder coated for maximum corrosion resistance and both the H-base and counterbalance include clever, easy-to-use features such as levelling feet for uneven ground and adjustable legs for increased radius.

The counterbalance version comes the addition of a detachable folding weight basket with integrated swivel locking castors and a market leading 270° allowable rescue rotation.

The new Porta Base is easily adjustable from 1430-1830mm, with a height of 1600mm. The system is fully tested and accredited to the requirements of EN795 – 2012 as an anchor point for fall protection.
